Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in both film, television and theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer in The Showtime program Soul Food. Following her wedding, she was Nikki Kodjoe. She was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. In her early years as young, she demonstrated an interest in acting and received the Top Actress Award in a Maryland High School Contest. The path to acting began when she was employed by the Washington Ballet Company and theatre. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love was her first major performance. Contractor, who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai before he turned 7, had traveled the world and experienced many cultures as a child. After attending boarding schools during seven years of London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada in which she lived for the majority of her childhood as well as her early years of adulthood. Contractor achieved academic success in Toronto in addition to her training as the ballerina. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in arts) the student studied ballet and theater. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would be her future career. She danced for almost 10 year. She was awarded a full scholarship to study at the University of Toronto after graduating. The university offered her master's degree in theatre and double majored in sociology and psychology. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year, she was awarded the leading role. After two weeks of performances, she got praise from the audience. This play was named one of the most successful productions by Canadian critics. Contractor accepted the offer to join Stratford's Conservatory. There are only eight males and four females accepted to a course of 20 weeks in classical theater. The actor's involvement in the upcoming play-season was confirmed and she was cast in the role of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
